How far from dispointment to satisfaction in Cosmetic Tube industry---my experience with one customer in 2015

After so many years of experience, sometimes new customer disappeard if our cosmetic tube price is not met or anything else is not meeting their demand.
However, one case happened last year was unforgetable. It often jump into my mind and I want share with others from time to time.


The customer M created a new line of products packed by cosmetic tubes. This was the first time they use plastic tubes for hand cream. Their design were very complicated and don't have all the details outlined. After discussed several times, we finally got the conclusion to ask the 3rd party to adjust and design the artwork again according to their file. So there were extra cost arisen. The customer was happy for our solution. We sent the printed samples to them for approval. Customer expressed their satisfaction and placed the order, paid the deposit to us, we process the order internally.

Suddently, almost one week later than the deposit received, the customer informed us that they found the tube was totally wrong. He said our length was too long to match their box, and they don't need the sealed tail in silver, must be same as the body. He even mentioned that he was SOO disappointed and regret to have paid the deposit to a wrong company. Which really made me confused and surprised, I could imagine how angry my customer was. I responsed immediately and asked them to send picture of how they want, meanwhile, I've sent the picture of our normal products with details that I've figured out with my experience.

Well, can you imagine the reason?  The print was opposite just because we print the tubes according to our normal practice, and didn't aware of customer's unique ideas. Their product just want to be on the converse way like others! The techincans and I were all surprised by their design at that time for several hours.  This is the first time we met such outstanding designs.

After checked with our technican again, I explained in details to the customer by listing 1,2,3,4..., with detailed pictures with marking on the tube to show why it was a must, etc.  Then I received an email including below:

Like that go and forth for several email, finally, all the members involved in customers's company were understood.And then I received an email from the customer, he said, he was satisfied with my service and profession. And he was sure they will be our most loyalty customer. When I received that email, tell you the truth, I was very happy and excited for many days. Now this customer has been cooperating with us for more than 1 year, and already proceeded with several repeat and bigger orders, everything went through very smoothly now.

As a person who is dealing with oversea's customers for 20years, the customer's satisfaction and their compliments on my profession are what I am pursuing and the value of success.

The distance between disappointment and satisfaction from one customer can be very short, just from this email to next email, maybe just one day or even just several minutes.

Wish to achieve more satisfaction in my career with more professional knowledges of cosmetic tube packaging in the future, and less disappointment found on incoming email.
